I just got this scoop on this beach clean-up from the folks at Thrillist.
Clean up Ocean Beach and get rewarded with food, libations and music for all of your hard work!

This Saturday, hit OB for a Surfrider/Barefoot sponsored, 2hr beach clean that’ll be immediately followed by a free-wine Beach Chalet bash featuring everything from cab sauv to bubbly white zin, “beach treats” like grilled salmon BLTs and hangar steak skewers, and live music from Tristan Prettyman — who would have been a very pretty man indeed, if she wasn’t a chick.

I got “another” reminder from Supervisor Carmen Chu’s office today about an upcoming cleaning event at Sunset Blvd this coming weekend. It’s a good thing I got “another” reminder, because the first one never made it to my inbox.
From Carmen:
We will be working along 36th & 37th Ave, on Noriega, Moraga and Ortega to clean up brush and debris along the corridor and help clear walking paths for safe walking and jogging. The event on Saturday is a kick-off to our ongoing efforts to improve Sunset Boulevard, and the work will continue beyond Saturday with crews removing dead tree parts and pruning dense trees and bushes all along Sunset Blvd.
Sunset Blvd Clean Up
When: Saturday, June 21 Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm
Location: Meet at Noriega & 37th Ave (NW corner)
Supplies will be provided through the Department of Public Works. Please dress in comfortable clothing and shoes.
If you plan on attending the clean-up, please email chustaff@sfgov.org.
Hope to see you all out there on Saturday!
I have to say, so far, I’ve been very pleased with Carmen’s office and with her communication with the neighborhoods. And I’m still hoping that Supervisor Sean R. Elsbernd will jump on the technological bandwagon and learn to email his constituents as well. We might hear more about what’s happening in the Northern portion of the Avenues if he was able to do so.
Anyhow - hope you have a chance to stop by and help clean up the hood!

While this event isn’t being held in The Avenues, what you learn here might just make our side of the City a little cleaner and a little greener!
Come join the Neighborhood Empowerment Network this Saturday morning for the first Clean and Green Summit!
According the the NEN Web Site “the NEN is a collaborative platform that serves as a central engagement point for communities to find and share information that will empower them to make their neighborhoods a better place to live. The NEN helps both established and up and coming community leaders learn of new ways to help their neighborhoods become safer, greener, cleaner, stronger, and ultimately be better prepared for natural disasters.”
The Clean and Green Summit will be held this Saturday on May 31st.
Space is limited. The Summit will feature a resource fair with dozens of agencies and non-profits ready to help you to clean and green your community, breakout groups and a NEN first – walking tours of the Mission to see first hand how this neighborhood is greening itself.
You can register for the summit and find out more by clicking here or by calling 551-7111.
Hope to see you there!
